$10,000 up for grabs for Queenslanders with a disability

If you are a frequent reader of Touchstone you would have heard us mention Access Arts - Queensland's leading arts organisation delivering visual and performing arts workshops for people who experience disability or disadvantage.

It's a very exciting time for Queensland creatives as the Access Arts Achievement Award is open and accepting applications. Now in its eighth year, the Access Arts Achievement Award was established so artists with disability could excel in their chosen careers and have the opportunity to follow their dreams - something that can be hard to get off the ground without funding support.

The $10,000 award is open to Queenslanders with a disability who are driven to create, develop, present, produce, exhibit and tour their work.

Arts Manager of Access Arts, Tim Brown, has put a call out to creatives:

"Anyone who has a creative dream that needs support bringing it to life, this is for you! We are open to all projects, so whether you are a musician, dancer, painter, sketcher, crafter or designer, we want to hear from you!"

Previous Award winners have come from all over Queensland, from Cairns to the Gold Coast. 2019 winner and aerial performer Lauren Watson recently debuted her new show "Nerve" at this year's Undercover Arts Festival.

If you prefer to observe the arts rather than partake, keep up to date with the on goings at Access Arts (and the 2021 winners announcement) on Facebook and Instagram. We also post details around upcoming shows and events - your 2022 calendar will thank you!

If you would like to read more about the Award and what is required to apply, you can do so here. To leave it with Tim:

"The sky is the limit when it comes to the project each artist puts forward, presenting a fantastic oppostunity for artists to extend the life of an existing piece, or create a new one".

Applications for the Access Arts Achievement will be assessed by a professional panel who will be looking for innovative, viable projects with artistic and or cultural merit, which will provide opportunity for professional development.

To apply visit accessarts.org.au. Submissions close 5 November, 2021.
